Labels English dubbed titles on MyAnimeList.net and adds dub only filtering
< Feedback on MAL (MyAnimeList) Dubs
the script works great, however, i must ask. would it be possible, to make it compatible with the myanimelist browser extension ( https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/mal-sync/kekjfbackdeiabghhcdklcdoekaanoel ) so that the sites the extension works on, also get to benefit from the dub checker script?
Thanks for the suggestion but unfortunately the answer is no. That’s beyond the scope of this project. I made this to help myself find dubs as a hobby and can’t justify the work required to extend and maintain its functionality for multiple different sites. I don’t use the MAL-Sync extension, and I will never add support for sites or extensions linking to pirated or illegal content.
This script checks unique numerical IDs in MyAnimeList links (e.g., myanimelist.net/anime/<ID>
) against a list of IDs I compiled, stored locally in your browser to keep it running as quickly as possible. Unless other sites use identical IDs, the script would need to cross-reference each title on a page with the corresponding MAL ID using either their rate-limited search API or Jikan, making it drastically slower. MAL-Sync uses these APIs to look up the single playing title from the site it syncs, not a full page containing dozens of titles.
additionally, sites such as ( https://kuroiru.co/app ) to help locate the dub versions of anime, be them official dubs, fan-dubs, or upcoming / planned dubs.
I label all official dubs, but don't differentiate between complete or upcoming/planned as I lack the resources to track of every dub’s release schedule. I have no plans to include fandubs.
i know there used to be an site for checking if an dub version of an anime was out there or not, it was ( https://isthisdubbed.com/ ), however the only thing that site ends up showing now is an forbidden access error 403 screen.
It’s too bad to see isthisdubbed.com down. It worked well, but stopped updating a while ago. At its peak it only listed around 2,400 titles. The list compiled for this script contains over 5,100 — to my knowledge, every English dubbed anime ever.
I appreciate the feedback. I hope you continue to find the script useful.
i see, thank you for letting me know.

this script, is the only functioning dub checker left out there.
-- hence the request of wider compatibility.
if it'll help, here's where you'll find an bunch of sites to use to check for dubbed versions in: ( https://gist.github.com/taskylizard/5ba73bf97dccf159316edcf4c6520856?permalink_comment_id=4360714 ) and ( https://everythingmoe.com/ ) aswell as plenty of other useful things.
-- best of luck, looking forward to seeing just how amazing this dub checker will become.
